Do What You Love

There is a saying, “Do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” This quote is most certainly true. Think about work. At the moment, the United States has a lack of workers. It is not because there is a group that doesn’t want to work, it is that this group no longer wants to work dead-end jobs for minimal pay in a poor work environment. So what does a job that one loves truly mean? I don’t think there is one single definition and it really is up to the individual. Yet, there is one aspect that is always mentioned when you speak to someone who loves what they do, they love the people. They love the people they work with and love the people they work for. You will see an environment where people feel great when they come to work and feel great when they go home. In my opinion this is what work life balance is like. I think it all starts with selfless leadership.

Leaders Who Set The Tone

His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj was not always the Guru of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. Before becoming the president of the fellowship he was a student of his Guru Shastriji Maharaj. Guru Shastriji Maharaj showed the young Pramukh Swami how to lead with compassion and selflessness. Shastrji Maharaj showed selflessness through his actions time and time again. He would sacrifice himself in anyway to please just one devotee and did so until his final breath. It was this type of leadership that made a small group of devotees with little to nothing give all they could in building and completing 5 grand mandirs made of marble and limestone in the Gujarat. His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj was witness to this leadership and did exactly as his Guru did. Pramukh Swami Maharaj embodied true love and that is what drove millions around the world to engage in selfless service for humanity without any care for their personal well being. It is this love that drove the progress of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha to build faster and grow farther than anyone could have imagined.

I Don’t Lead Anyone

I have heard this statement so many times over that I am just a kid, I am an individual contributor, etc. The truth is our actions make us leaders not our position in society. Actions inspire people to do better and be better, not words and commands. So if you are living and breathing, you are a leader. Never think that you are just another person.
